REFUND & CANCELLATION POLICY

Minnesota Safe Steps, LLC Effective Date: May 1, 2026

Our Commitment

Minnesota Safe Steps is committed to delivering professional, high-quality home safety services on every visit. We stand behind our work. This policy is designed to be fair, transparent, and easy to understand.

Assessment Services

Cancellations made 48 hours or more before a scheduled appointment:

  • You may cancel or reschedule with no charge. Simply call or text 507-438-2795 or email Krista@SafeStepsMN.com.

Cancellations made less than 48 hours before a scheduled appointment:

  • A cancellation fee of $50 applies. This fee reflects the time reserved and travel costs committed. The $50 fee may be applied as a credit toward a rescheduled appointment booked within 30 days.

Same-day cancellations and no-shows:

  • The full service fee is forfeited. Exceptions are made for genuine medical emergencies — please contact us as soon as possible and we will work with you.

After the assessment is completed:

  • Assessment fees are non-refundable once the evaluation has been performed and findings have been communicated. You received a professional service — our time, expertise, travel, and documentation cannot be returned.

Assessment credit:

  • Your assessment fee is credited in full toward any installation or add-on services booked within 30 days of your assessment date.

Installation & Add-On Services

Before work begins:

  • If you change your mind about installation or add-on services before Krista begins work on that item, no charge applies to the unstarted service.

After work is completed:

  • Installation services are non-refundable once completed. Grab bars and safety add-ons are installed to manufacturer specifications and industry best practices. If you have a concern about the quality or placement of completed work, please contact us within 7 days and we will return to evaluate and address the issue at no charge.

Defective hardware or materials:

  • In the rare event that a grab bar or hardware item fails due to a product defect within 90 days of installation, Minnesota Safe Steps will return to replace it at no labor charge. Client is responsible for replacement hardware cost if the item is outside the original manufacturer's warranty.

Safety Membership Plans

Cancellation:

  • Safety Membership Plans may be cancelled at any time with no penalty. If you cancel before your annual visit has been completed, a prorated refund will be issued based on the number of months remaining in your membership year.

Refund calculation example:

If you paid $149 for the Gold Plan and cancel after 4 months with no visit completed, you would receive a refund of approximately $99.33 (8 months ÷ 12 months × $149).

If your annual visit has already been completed:

  • No refund is issued for the used portion of the membership. Any unused add-on installs or discounts included in your plan are forfeited upon cancellation.

Satisfaction Concern Process

If you are ever dissatisfied with a service, please contact Krista directly within 7 days of your appointment:

  • Call or text: 507-438-2795

  • Email: Krista@SafeStepsMN.com

  • We will listen, respond promptly, and make it right whenever it is within our reasonable ability to do so. Our reputation in Southern Minnesota is important to us, and every concern is taken seriously.

  • We do not process refunds for dissatisfaction with safety recommendations you chose NOT to implement, or for outcomes outside our scope of service (such as a fall occurring after a refused recommendation).

  • We focus on REDUCING fall risks and safety concerns in the home environment. We cannot always mediate human risk factors.

Weather & Travel Cancellations

Minnesota Safe Steps serves rural Southern Minnesota. In cases of severe weather, dangerous road conditions, or circumstances outside our control, we reserve the right to reschedule at no charge to either party. We will contact you as early as possible and prioritize rescheduling within 7 days.

Payment

Payment is due at the time of service unless otherwise agreed in writing. We accept cash, check, Venmo, PayPal, and credit card. Returned checks are subject to a $35 returned check fee.

ILLNESS & EXPOSURE CANCELLATION POLICY

Minnesota Safe Steps, LLC Effective Date: May 1, 2026

Why This Policy Exists

  • Minnesota Safe Steps works in the homes of older adults, post-hospitalization patients, and individuals with compromised immune systems. These clients are among the most vulnerable members of our community — and they deserve to be protected, not put at risk by a service provider who showed up anyway.

  • I travel from home to home throughout Southern Minnesota. That means whatever I am exposed to in one home, I could carry to the next. I take that responsibility seriously.

  • This policy protects my clients first. It also protects me, my family, and everyone else I serve.

If Krista Is Ill or Has Been Exposed

If I am experiencing any of the following on the day of your appointment, I will contact you as early as possible to reschedule at no charge to you:

  • Fever of 99°F or higher

  • Active cough, sneezing, or runny nose

  • Sore throat or hoarseness

  • Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea

  • Body aches or chills beyond normal fatigue

  • Conjunctivitis (pink eye)

  • Known or suspected exposure to influenza, COVID-19, RSV, strep, Staph, MRSA, or any other communicable illness within the prior 5 days

  • A household member actively sick with a communicable illness

  • I will never show up to your home sick. I will never ask you to proceed with a visit when there is any reasonable concern about transmission. Your safety is not negotiable.

  • Rescheduling: I will prioritize rescheduling your appointment within 7 days. Safety Membership members will receive first available scheduling. There is no cancellation fee of any kind when I initiate a reschedule due to illness or exposure.

If You or a Household Member Are Ill

Please contact me to reschedule if ANYONE in the home is experiencing:

  • Active fever

  • Vomiting or diarrhea within the past 24 hours

  • A newly diagnosed communicable illness (flu, COVID-19, RSV, strep, norovirus, etc.)

  • Symptoms of a respiratory illness that began within the past 5 days

There is no cancellation fee when you reschedule due to illness — regardless of how close to the appointment. A same-day illness cancellation will never result in a charge. Please simply call or text 507-438-2795 or email Krista@SafeStepsMN.com as soon as you know.

I would much rather reschedule than risk your health or anyone else's.

Masking

I respect that every client has different comfort levels and health needs. Upon arrival at every appointment, I will ask whether you would prefer I wear a face mask during the visit. There is no need to explain or justify your preference — your answer is always honored without question.

If you would like me to mask for the entire visit, I will do so. If you have a preference for a specific mask type (surgical, KN95, N95), please let me know when scheduling and I will come prepared.

If I have any personal concern about exposure risk on my end — even without confirmed illness — I may choose to mask proactively and will let you know when I arrive.

Immunocompromised & High-Risk Clients:

If you or the person I am visiting is currently undergoing chemotherapy, is post-transplant, is on immunosuppressant medications, or has been recently hospitalized, please let me know when scheduling. I will take additional precautions including:

  • Scheduling your appointment as the first visit of the day whenever possible, minimizing my exposure from earlier homes

  • Wearing a mask for the full visit without being asked

  • Avoiding handshakes or physical contact unless initiated by you

  • Sanitizing tools and materials before entering your home

Your vulnerability is not an inconvenience — it is information that helps me serve you better.

Post-Hospital Rapid Safety Checks

For clients being discharged directly from a hospital or rehabilitation facility, I treat every visit as a high-precaution appointment by default. I will mask, sanitize all equipment before entry, and schedule as the first appointment of the day whenever possible.

If I have had any illness exposure within 5 days of a scheduled post-hospital visit, I will proactively reschedule rather than proceed — even if I feel well — because recently discharged patients face the highest risk of complication from any secondary exposure.

Seasonal Illness Periods

During peak illness seasons (typically November through March in Minnesota), I may:

  • Proactively reach out before appointments to confirm no new illness has developed in the household

  • Choose to mask at all visits during high-transmission weeks in the community

  • Ask clients to open a window or ensure ventilation during the visit if weather allows

I will always communicate these decisions transparently and in advance.

Our Shared Responsibility

This policy works because both of us take it seriously. I commit to honesty about my own health status — and I ask the same of you. If something changes between scheduling and the appointment day, please tell me. There is no penalty, no judgment, and no awkwardness. Just a reschedule and a date that works better for everyone.
